To install XLAGraph and Svedberg: The programs and other files are usually supplied via the Internet as a self-extracting archive, SVXLyymm.EXE, where yymm are the year and month (to indicate the versions). Alternatively, you may have gotten a floppy diskette containing the extracted files. If you do NOT have SVXLyymm.EXE or have already extracted the archived files then skip to the next paragraph. Otherwise, copy SVXLyymm.EXE to an appropriate temporary directory and execute it to extract the files. These files total about 1.35 Mbytes so you will need at least that much free disk space. Alternatively the files may be extracted to an empty 1.44 Mbyte floppy diskette. To do this, make the floppy the default directory (e.g. by issuing the commmand "b:" at the DOS prompt). Then execute the archive by giving the complete path to its location (e.g. the command "c:\temp\svedxla"). If you are updating earlier versions you will be asked whether you want to overwrite the files, to which you should respond "yes". Next, execute the installation program, SETUP.EXE, and it will install the files in the appropriate places (Windows must be running for this step). For example, if you have extracted the files to a floppy in the b: drive, from Program Manager or File Manager you can select File...Run and then enter "b:setup" as the program to run. The setup program will also ask if you want to create a program manager group for this software, which is recommended. If you are installing these files as an update to an earlier version, only the new versions will be copied. Also, your own default settings in the .ini files will be retained, unless the new version requires individual settings to be overwritten. See the WHATSNEW.TXT file for information about changes from earlier versions. The program documentation (such as it is) will be found in XLAGRAPH.TXT, SVEDBERG.TXT, and GRAPHICS.TXT files, which are copied to the same directory you designated for the programs. You can browse or print these files using NOTEPAD or any other editor/word processor. After the installation, you may delete all the files from the temporary directory (if you created one), but you might want to retain either SVXLyymm.EXE, or the extracted files, as a backup. When it finishes, the setup program erases itself from its temporary location in the Windows directory, since it is no longer needed. Two other installation files, setupkit.dll and ver.dll, are copied to the Windows and Windows/Systems directories, respectively, to be sure they are present, but they are retained since they may also be needed by the installation programs for your other software.
